Chaparral is the "top gun" herd sire to the Close-Knit herd. He is the blue-ribbon, award-winning, true black son of the most talked-about herd sire in history in 2004..."the herd sire of champions,"Dom Lucilio.Chaparral's 2-year old, unusually dense fleece measured a super-fine 18 microns with a staple length exceeding six inches, which is incredibly rare to find in a true black breeding male. Chaparral offers fineness, density and staple-length in the darkest of all colors... deep, true black.
2003: 18.0 AFD; 3.8 SD; 21.1 CV; 1.2% > 30 (a True Black at 2 yr.s old!)
2004: 22.O AFD (a True Black at 3 years old and breeding!!!)
2006: 21.2 AFD; 5.4 SD; 25.5 CV; 6.6 %>30; Curve = 33 (a 5 year old breeding male!)
Chaparral's curvature was scientifically measured to be 33.0. It is not bold in "crimp" style and is quite fine. His fleece curvature falls into the range of Snowmass' description and definition of a "silky" style, which contributes to his super soft handle.

Chaparral's breeding career began in the fall of 2004 and he has sired mostly females. His offspring are exhibiting his outstanding presence, straight and substantially boned conformation, beautiful heads, long staple length, SUPER-FINENESS and GREAT BRIGHTNESS. His Crias have come in almost every color including; White, Light Fawn, Medium Fawn, Dark Fawn, Light Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Dark Rose Grey, and True Black (see pic.s below).
Chaparral resides in New York at the Close-Knit farm full time and is made available for services year-round; however, we prefer to work within our optimum breeding season: May thru October or mid-November (at the latest). If the summer is particularly hot, we may take a brief hiatus during that time.
