Quintero's Butterfly Ballet and Peruvian Checkmatewere paired up with hopes of creating an alpaca with correct conformation, dense, soft, crimpy and beautiful color in some shade of grey. Close-Knit Beaux Reve D'Argent arrived and delivered all!
Beaux Reve is everything I'd hoped he'd be, and more. He is a super sweet, personable lad...always insisting on lots of neck rubs whenever I am anywhere near him. He likes people, and doesn't mind big hugs one little bit! Can you just imagine a Shaquille's Quechuan Guru daughter bred to Beaux Reve in the future? Or a Beaux Reve daughter bred to Guru? Either way, the possible outcomes are exciting to think about and plan for!
Yes, I would definitely like to cross Beaux Reve with some of the other lines in our foundation herd to expand the grey program across the board and infuse more density and crimp to those gorgeously colored fleeces. Ballet, a light to medium rose grey on one side and silver grey on the other, has a tall, stretchy and still correct conformation, good density to her fiber and great color to her fleece. She has fabulous production qualities like catching her pregnancies and birthing quickly, easily and without any assistance whatsoever. These traits are highly heritable, so we are expecting Beaux Reve will possess the male counterpart reproduction qualities and (hopefully) become a fine herd sire one day.
Stay tuned for more about this well put together, strong and elegant grey male as he continues to grow!

Darling Divinity
(aka "Divinity")
Sandhill Mahogany Rose (aka "Rosie") and Nyala's Perucoyo Tamerlane were paired in 2009 and they delivered big-time in a small package... "Close-Knit Darling Divinity," arrived July 2010! She's an elegant little girl, and quite the spit-fire at the same time!
Divinity's sire, Tamerlane, is a proven producer of multiple show winners and champions and is, himself, a huge award-winner. Half Accoyo and full Peruvian, Tamerlane consistently stamps high quality, beautiful conformation and lustrous color onto his crias.
Divinity's maroon-colored mom, Rosie, is a daughter of the now-deceased, blue-ribboned dark rose grey herdsire from the Alianza region of Peru, 5Peruvian Quechua.
Divinity is spunky, friendly and oozes class! She's a little princess and is clearly growing up to be a regal Queen!

Muhammad Ali
Ali was born on October 19th, 2010 to Lady Irene. This lad was BIG from the get-go, and only ten days late (off his mother's "due date"). Ali's sire is Checkmate, a very nice bay black full Peruvian son of the famous Guellermo..
Ali already exhibits outstanding conformation, presence and, of course, bright, crimpy, dark fawn fleece. He is a bruiser of a young male, with big bone, big energy, big independence and bravado and an overall, well, big presence!
Ali's personality is adventurous! From day one, he has displayed his preference to wander off on his own, only visiting his mother for the milk bar or an occasional nap. He enjoys exploring, and romping with the other crias. He already has a girlfriend who is just ridiculously smitten by him (check out our little girl, Sugar's Holiday Truffles).
Ali seems destined to be a herdsire someday as, so far, everything he exhibits "fills the bill!"

Sugar's Holiday Truffles
Honig's Sugar and the dashing Checkmate's cria, "Truffles," arrived October 8th, 2010! This adorable little girl was delivered with a normal presentation by her dam, about 9 a.m. in one of the stalls on the sunnier south end of the barn, reserved for "due to deliver" dams.
Truffles is either white (but it looks quite different from her dam's true white, so...) OR it is a rare but much appreciated super-pale, very light grey...She displays the classic markings of a grey, with dark eye rims, furnishings, a few rosettes on her body and face like many greys have, grey skin pigment to skin, inside of ears, toe-nails and gums, dental pad, etc.; So, she may well be an extremely light gray. Only time will tell. We will know for sure at the 2011 Close-Knit Clippin' Day. Like our "Opera" before her, the shearer may look at me really strangely when I state that she is grey and that's why she's being sheared in the grey group...LOL! When we hold that lock in our hands and fan it out, by next year, it should be obvious at close inspection.
Truffles is lovely, and what a sweet and spirited girl she is! Oh, and she is a FLIRT, and loves to pronk, sprint, buck and twist in the air!
Truffle's fiber is extremely dense and crimpy, bright and super soft! She's a quite upright young lady and seems to really enjoy playing with her new friends, Ali (first "love"), Kong, Sly Shadow and Superman. Her dam, Sugar, is a terrific mother, very doting, and a great teacher for Truffles.
Visit the site periodically for more updates on the sweet-as-sugar, Truffles!
